Mimasaka-shi out side bath by river (美作市市営温泉)

Not too far from Main part of yunogou.
Mimasaka local council running their own hot spring is purely amazing. Since yunogou sagi onsen is more build for tourism. This Onsen is more for locals.
With only 300yen you will have great ONSEN experience.
During day, it quite relaxing with sun. But I guess some people do not want to get sub burn on your skin.
When it is full moon, the bath is beautiful.

Uses of Soap, Shampoo and Razors are strictly prohibited.

Enjoy your onsen.

Nootka no yu (能登香の湯)

When I arrived to this onsen the first expression was, really?, onsen here? Are they open?

I park my car and walked into front door. No receptionist, only a sign says "bath, this way" we followed the direction and found an elderly lady sitting on the chair.
And soon I found outh that she is the receptionist for the Onsen.

200¥
100¥ with discount ticket

There are no shampoo or soap so you must bring your own stuff.

Inside bath is pretty small, maybe the bath tab can only hold 3-4 people inside.

And the water is very hot! I couldn't stay in the water more than 15minute at once.

But yes I call the water is pretty good. The heat did stay longer and I felt my skin is smooth than usual after taking bath at Notoka no YU.

I may return to here some other time.

風呂の日(every 26th is bathing day!)

Lots of public path place(Onsen) offers, specials on the 26th of every month.
In Japanese, we have alternative counting call out for 1.2.3....10.
If you are familiar with Japanese, you should know its "ichi(1) ni(2) san(3).....roku(6)....juu(10)".

The alternative is "hi(1) Fu(2) Mi(3).....Muttsu(6) .......To(10)".
and we put Fu as 2 and 6 as Ro(ku) and Furo no hi. It's just fun fact of Japanese.

Similarly, we have 29th for meat(niku)' day. and so on, if you are interested, please google it.

It is very limited facilities I have visited on 26th. If 26th is on the weekend, I have more chance to go somewhere else to find out.. but otherwise, not really have time to...

I know yunogou onsen (sagi yu onsen) does lottery. You pick a ball from the box to win features. Prize can be discount tickets, free bathing pass, soft drink and ice cream. The worst prize is the pocket tissue paper. Lol

Seto haws ONSEN gives away of discount ticket vailed for a month.

I hear YUBARA SUNA YU is the origin of furo no hi.

Why don't you try take public bath in 26th of the month!!!
Happy onsen life :)

Nishi no Yu Onsen

Nishi no Yu Onsen is about 10-15 minutes away from Yunogou Onsen area.
This Onsen is build right next to drive in. There are restaurant and souvenirs.

I haven't heard Good News about the restaurant its self though, if you spend more than \1000
you will get -100yen coupon for the Onsen ticket.

Adult:550yen
Child:220yen

is the general admission fee for this facilities.

There are no bathroom inside changing room so, you must be aware of going bathroom before you take out your clothes if you needed.

There are one Hinoki bath tub with Clear onsen water with slight hydrogen sulphide odour.
The smell of Hydrogen sulphide is very similar to sulphur.
I guess most of people can not tell the different buy just its smell.

and right next to the warm onsen there are another smaller Hinoki bath tub with, cold water.
I wasn't sure if it also onsen or not.

Because when I read the Onsen Table just in the changing room, its original onsen temperature is somewhere around 20-21℃ so which is cold springs.

but the word they use near cold bath tub they noted 生水 which is just normal water.

Anyway, this onsen is became my 2nd best just my No.1 is Maga Onsen.

If you come anywhere close, please stop by and enjoy.

Ebisu no Yu in Kwanabe, Tsuyama (極楽の里 えびす乃ゆ)

Talking about Onsen, Ebisu no Yu is little different. When I am talking about natural Onsen, I often say they are supposed to good for your skin and keeps your body warm for a while. This sort of thing happens depending of natural element contaminant in the under ground warm water.

Ebisu no Yu is using under ground water but it is "Ido Mizu (井戸水)".

If you are not familiar with Japanese, you may think it is the same ground water and why do they use different name for it. Well, there are legally decided and what to call "温泉".

Also, because 温泉's 温 also means warm in Japanese, you may think water must be warm about by its law it does not matter as long as it in the condition.

So what is "the condition"..... If I start talking about whole law it may be going to too much.
I found really good website for it and they made brief summary about the law.

According to the web, water is Onsen if it fulfil any of below rules.
  1. When originally collecting water, it is over 25℃. (Means that even if the component of water is no difference with just water if the water is over 25℃ , we put it in same group as Onsen)
  2. Contain 1,000mg(1g) of dissolved substances except gas in 1kg of Onsen water. (Means if the water contains more than 1,000mg/kg of dissolved substance. It is Onsen, No matter if water temperature is below 25℃.)
  3. Contains one or more assigned substance(18types) and any of which contains more than regulated amount. (Means if water clear this condition its "Onsen" even if it no more than 25℃ or does not contain 1,000mg/kg if dissolved substance.)

This is really interesting isn't it? According to this law, underground water may easily called as "Onsen". Maybe not many people know this...

I am now going back to my original article about Ebisu no Yu.
Ebisu no Yu is more entertaining than actual Onsen. Because it is in fact artificial Onsen, they can do whatever.
They have a few kinds of jet bath. (it's like Jacuzzi), electronic bath(low frequency electrical vibration is believed to good massage for your body), Sauna and Roten Buro and many other bath tubs.

Ebisu no Yu has built in Restaurant, so you can try some food or drink, before or after. Also they massages, the best time to take massage is after having onsen.

Because in that way your body is very relaxed and warm so easy to massage your body.

Anyway if you live or come close in Tsuyama why don't you stop at this artificial onsen?

A few basic rules to enjoy onsen.

Kon-nichiwa (Hello).
While I am blogging about hot springs, let's me tell you the effective and correct way to take onsen.

If you every stayed 1 or 2 days at 旅館(Ryokan). Japanese traditional style hotel, i would say.
You maybe noticed there are tea and small piece of snack left on table.

There are more meaning than just welcoming your stay at the hotel.

After long distance of travel, doesn't matter if you used public transportation or own car.
Your body is quite tired. Since Onsen is very relaxing, it sounds good to have onsen on your first arrival.
However, taking bath uses quite a work and uses lots of energy. So on your 1st arrival, I recommend you to sat around table and have a rest by drinking warm tea and eating those snack. After 30 minutes to 1 hour rest, you can take onsen and etc...

Don't too stressed about those rules though, just take care your health and do not ruin your travel from 1st day.

Secondly, you should avoid taking bath when you are hungry. same reason with above and you may get sick after all.
Also, specialist recommend that to avoid taking bath right after your meal. Sudden temperature rise on your body and the high water pressure may bad to your body.

Also, specialist recommend not to consume any alcohols before taking onsen, or while taking onsen. Because, it is dangerous. In Japanese TV shows and animes do it all that time though don't do it. You may ended up drown yourself in the bath.

When you take bath your blood pressure will go high all of sudden, so you will feel more drunk than actually you are. and when you go out, your blood pressure will go low and you will feel dizzy.

In some bad case, you will loose your eye site and consciousness.

Now, we are going in Onsen. In Japanese onsen, if you are not familiar with. We take out all clothes. Wearing swimming pants in the onsen is not allowed except in the special situation.

Also, I recommend you to small face towel not too thick one though.

Before go into bath tub, you must wash your body. There is something called "Kake-Yu" in most of Onsen, if not use water from bath-tab or shower.
Slowly pour water from your toe to legs, then thigh > stomack > back> neck. and specialists are recommending also pour the water on your head a few times.

Then put the small towel on you head and slowly enter the bath.

One last thing is try not dip your towel in the onsen. No one want onsen to get dirty by lint.

Above are at least rules that you should keep in mind.

[Summary]
1. ask yourself if you are tired or hungry before taking onsen.
2.Must not have alcohol before or while having onsen.
3. Be Naked, no swim pants!
4. Do Wash your body by pouring water to yourself.
5. Try not to drop your hand towel into onsen.

Keep above 5 rules and everyone can enjoy the onsen.
It's really hard to tell you this on the article, if you have any question, please left me a comment.

Happy Onsen Life.

TARU ONSEN(足温泉)

TARU ONSEN located very close to MAGA ONSEN.
It's 700m drive from Maga onsen and it's at other side of the river.

TARU has newer facilities than Maga onsen and has 2 inside bath and a outside bath.

A small bath with 2 jets, you can massage your back with the water pressures.
other inside bath is just plane bath, probably 15-20 ppl can be go in at once.

Outside bath (露天風呂) is rocky styled and made by wood.

There are 2 visible water source in outside bath.

Water should be similar or same to Maga onsen, however I felt slightly less quality of hot spring.

price is 420yen there are showers and taps to wash your bodies.
There are a soup available for free but no shampoo. So you have to bring by yourself.

Kids younger than elementary school students are free.

Water temperature 39-40, i think.
Outside bath felt more warmer/hotter.
 Enjoy your onsen life
